Generations of Hope

We couldn’t be more excited to host the Girls & Women’s Conference Generations of Hope, March 27th & 28th right here at SRBC! It’s been a long time since we made an intentional effort for a 2-day faith and fun filled conference like this. This event has been a Transformation Team goal for two years, and we’re glad it’s finally coming to fruition.

All throughout Scripture, we see that God cares about different generations, specifically the importance of faith being based on from one to another.

Deuteronomy 6:6–7 "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

Psalm 78:4–7 "We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done... then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands".

Long term research done by the Fuller Youth Institute indicates that involvement in all-church worship, serving alongside older generations, and authentic interest from adults are critical for helping faith "stick" from high school into adulthood. SRBC has tried to live this out well over the years. We hope that this conference can bring some of the above-mentioned Scriptures alive.

We have good food planned, intentional times set aside for conversations among different generations, worship (led by Kennedy Dodd and friends) and a dynamic speaker, Heather Flies, that will help us tie this theme together. Here’s a little bit more info about our speaker for our two sessions.

Heather Flies is in her 30th year as the Junior High Pastor at Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie.  She LOVES students and people in general!

Outside the walls of Wooddale, Heather spends a great deal of time and energy as a communicator.  During the school year, she is invited into local schools to speak on abstinence, self-esteem, and other current issues.  She also encourages women in all seasons of life, trains youth workers, and helps parents understand how to love their teenagers well.

In addition, Heather is an author! Her latest book for teenagers and young adults is Single, Dating, Friendships & Romance. Plus, That’s What She Said/That’s What He Said. I Want to Talk to My Teen About Girl Stuff, is her book for parents.

FUN STUFF:  Heather loves football, dominating on the tennis court, Tigger and listening to Christmas music all year long.  She owns 319 bottles of nail polish and 98 pairs of shorts (which she wears all winter long!)  She is the daughter of a long-distance truck driver, the youngest of six children, and grew up in southern Minnesota. Heather lives in Minnesota with her husband, Chad, and their two St. Bernards.

Girls from M.S. students through adults are invited to this conference! We really hope that you’ll consider joining us, and maybe even consider inviting a friend, neighbor, daughter or granddaughter. We have made the tickets free for students. Cost for adults to help cover food is $12. We already have 40 people signed up, which is amazing, and we hope to make it to 100! I think this will be one of our events at SRBC that you won’t want to miss! And a huge thank you to the Women’s Ministry Team for partnering with our Youth Ministry to accomplish this!
