The History of the Rock

On the northeast corner of the church, there sits a rather large rock.  What is the story behind that rock and how did it get there?  Well, let me tell you all about it:

Sometime in early 2007, the Evangelism Team came up with the idea of getting a large rock and place it somewhere near the church with a scripture passage engraved on it. This team was led by Kendra Bunger and also included Carrie Simon, Gwen Wrich, and Tami Bear.  They chose Isaiah 26:4 to have inscribed into the rock.  “Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD GOD is the eternal Rock”.  Now all they needed was a large rock.

Along comes Steve Kjormoe, and he knows of the perfect rock located west of Steamboat Rock near the Hwy 20 interchange.

However, knowing where to find the perfect rock and getting it back to the church would take some wisdom and muscle to get the job done.  More people would be needed to figure out how to get this done.  So here comes the help from Kevin Bunger, Jason Schuneman, Todd Kjormoe, Steve Kjormoe, and Paul Williams.

So, a plan is devised.  We only need a backhoe and a dump truck.

So, after the rock is dug out, we have a problem.  The backhoe cannot lift the rock into the dump truck.

However, these men will not be denied.  Let’s drive the dump truck into the ditch, use the backhoe to make a ramp into the dump truck, and push the rock into the truck.

Great idea!  It worked!  The rock is now in the dump truck.  Should be an easy task to get it to the church.  However, we have a problem. While the dump truck was coming out of the ditch, the driveshaft on the truck breaks.  These men will not be denied.  We need more equipment.  Jason and Dwight Schuneman to the rescue as they get their John Deere tractor and pull the dump truck to Steamboat Rock.

The rock is dumped in the north parking lot and now they need to get it across the street to the spot that it now rests.  Not a problem.  We need a bunch of old tires to roll the rock onto and then take the backhoe and push it across the street into the hole already dug by the backhoe.

And the rock was in place thanks to the following men:  Dave Strickler, Ed Bear, Justin Strickler, Todd Kjormoe, Steve Kjormoe, Jason Schuneman, Kevin Bunger, Dwight Schuneman, and Paul Williams.  Special thanks to Paul Williams, the leader of this gang.

And the rock is an encouragement to all of us and future generations to:

“Trust in the Lord always, for the LORD GOD is the eternal Rock.”
