GO! Day 2024
As you start to piece together your calendar for the summer, I want you to circle June 15th. I want you to circle it because that day will be an opportunity for us to Renew Rural Iowa. I love our church’s vision for the kind of church we want to be by 2026. In a sermon a few weeks ago I highlighted the value of a good witness. In that sermon the city of Susa is confused by the edict from the King to persecute the Jewish people. I believe that they were confused due the heritage of the witness of the people of God. Every Go Day we do is an opportunity for us as a church to witness to our neighbors.
“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” Jeremiah 29:7
This year’s Go Day will be in Wellsburg and that decision has opened some unique opportunities. I have been so deeply encouraged and challenged by the work our team has been doing to pull the pieces together for this year’s Go Day. Our mostly Wellsburg team of Curt & Dody Olson, Gary & Linda Jensen, Terry & Barb Jensen, Darrell & Joy Freeman, Steve & Shelly Johnson, and Carmen McConnell are a great team full of energy and ideas. We don’t have all the details ready for you just yet, but I want to share what we do know. What we do know is that this Go Day will be an opportunity for us to empower our community. We have found different community partners who are excited for the help we can give to impact the community.
So far, we’ll be working with United Reformed Church, Timothy Christian, AGWSR Middle School, The City of Wellsburg, and many individuals in Wellsburg. We may need to change the name to Go Paint Day because this year we have accumulated a lot of painting projects. Beside the organizations above and the projects listed we are still tracking down a few additional projects. If you know of someone in Wellsburg in need of help please contact me, vince@steamboatbaptist.org. We’ll have a lunch available for volunteers and the individuals we’ll be helping. You’ll get opportunities to share God’s heart for the people of Wellsburg.
More details will be coming over the next month. For now, I need you to just do one thing, circle June 15th. Then once it’s circled either join us or pray for us. We’d love to have either contribution in helping us Renew Rural Iowa.
