Your Life Is Ministry

This morning I woke up and thought, “Garbage bags. I totally forgot about garbage bags for Party in the Park and if 150 people eat we are going to need some garbage bags.” Just one more little thing on the list, right?

But honestly, it hit me. There are so many little things that go into serving the church. And the more I’ve been around our Community Team, the more I’m just in awe. People are showing up in ways most will never see. They’re pouring out their time, their hearts, their energy—not because anyone’s watching, but because they love Jesus and they love people.

Just this week alone:

  • I swung by the church on a random Tuesday night and John was still there, faithfully working.

  • John K was planning a trip to Waterloo—not for himself, but to support and equip the Celebrate Recovery team.

  • My husband and I drove past Aaron S. at a friend’s house, just being there for someone in need.

  • Lisa K and Linda L were organizing, emailing, pulling people together to serve.

  • Tammy M was making cookies—for church. Because sometimes ministry looks like sugar and flour and love.

  • Jim K and Sophie R are already thinking ahead and planning the church’s 150th celebration.

  • A group of six women are on a text thread finalizing a special night to honor Bryce and Amber.

    • And we noted that we needed to make sure to help Cathy S with tables, because she works so hard, she’d try to do too much herself!

  • Bryce himself ~ this week he was helping a family walk through something really hard.

  • Don L. volunteered to take a simple meal and turn it into something better.

  • Shari has had VBS supplies covering the church—she’s all in for the kids!

  • I saw photos of adults investing in our students on the CA Trip.

  • I heard an update about our Search Committee who are spending so much time helping our church find a new pastor.

  • The Women’s Ministry team was texting about a newsletter to help women lean in and follow Jesus more closely.

And here’s the thing—we didn’t even attend church on Sunday. This is just what I saw happening in the margins. And there is so much more I didn’t see.

This is the Church. This is what it looks like when the Body of Christ moves—not because someone asked from the stage, but because people know their lives belong to Jesus.

I think we sometimes believe our lives are ours to live—and if we’re generous, we’ll carve out a little bit of time for ministry here and there. But Jesus didn’t call us to occasionally serve. He called us to live on mission.

Your life IS ministry—it’s all sacred ground for loving and serving people. So here’s my gentle push:

* What’s your next step?

* As the school year starts, where can you jump in to serve and help?

*Where can you be part of what God is doing in our community and church?
