There’s No Place Like Rome!

Imagine what it was like to live and work in what was once considered the center of the world…the busy metropolis of Rome. You would hear the buzz about the teacher Paul, who was under house arrest. You might work with people who followed countless gods—and a very few who followed only one God. Perhaps you’d watch the gradual persecution of those who followed Jesus, a carpenter who’d died (and come back to life) proclaiming He was the Son of God.

This summer kids will explore what it might have been like to live as the Church was just beginning. They will experience new traditions, taste new foods, try new arts and crafts, and discover that God’s love is the most powerful gift, saving us from our sins.

Rome: Paul and the Persecuted Church makes its Steamboat Rock Baptist Church debut from August 3rd-6th. This year’s Vacation Bible School takes everyone back to the era when the Apostle Paul was in house arrest in Rome, and when the newly organized Church was just starting to feel the persecution pangs from the Roman government. Each “Roman Family,” made up of a group of kids and their VBS grown-up siblings and parents, will actually get to interact with Paul as he tells them of his adventures and why a relationship with Jesus Christ makes all the sacrifices worthwhile. There will be interactions with Roman guards and senators, and a chance to secretly visit an Underground Church meeting.

Along with trying on some togas or guard gear, kids will be able to stroll the Marketplace and buy some Roman food, try their hand at some crafts and skills from that era, or learn some new games at the Apprenticeship School. Extollo Time is Praise Time with uplifting music from our own in-house Extollo Team! Drama and hands-on experiences will be the one thing both VBS students and volunteer adults and teens will be talking about until Christmas!

Stay alert for notices regarding this exciting summer event! Put in on your calendar now — August 3-6, 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
